My name is Brooke McCloud. I am 40 years old and have performed publicly for over 20 years. First, as a rock |
drummer in the late 70's and early 80's for a regional band of modest acclaim named "Cleavage". Tired of the |
road I decided to put my energy into becoming a solo guitarist and singer. I have spent the last twelve years |
performing and perfecting my sound. I currently play and sing in the Phoenix area but have performed in such |
notable places as Park City, Utah and New Orleans. |
I have a wide range of experience playing weddings, coffee houses, ski resorts, restaurants and corporate |
functions. If you check out my song list in the "booking" section of this web-site you will see my list of over 100 |
cover songs that offer enough variety to satisfy most audiences. I also have over 40 original tunes that I like to |
occasionally throw into the mix. You can also obtain reference information and phone numbers from the "booking" |
section of this web-site. |
I am a solo guitarist but have gone to great lengths to provide my listeners with the fullest sound possible using |
innovative techniques without resorting to sequencers or canned drum machines. I consider myself a purest to a |
degree. I don't rely on sheet music when I play. I use the 6 string and 12 string guitar as the core of my sound. I |
include the harmonica on some songs for solo's and some expected melodies. I also play the drums with my |
feet. I know this sounds a little bit ridiculous but I've designed a drum set using marble blocks and drum triggers |
that sounds fantastic and really fills in the music with rhythms and fills. |
The next enhancement is the addition of a harmony box that is controlled by a footswitch and provides 1, 2 and 3 |
part harmonies to my music. It is not a sequencer and rounds out my sound to the fullest it can be for a solo artist. |
But wait, there's more...just when you thought I didn't have any more limbs to engage another instrument I added |
the bass lines with my head. You heard it right my head. I always thought it was possible so this Spring I found a |
keyboard that I felt had the best bass sound and mounted it on a rack just above where I sit to play with the |
keyboards keys dangling in front of my face. I took a wire hanger, wrapped it in yarn and created crude head-gear |
with a 3-4 inch protrusion capped by a wire nut. Slipping it over my head and positioning the protrusion out from |
my forehead I have a depressor that I can control with the movement of my head to hit the keys. Wahlah...I now |
play the bass lines of the songs with my head. It sounds gimmicky but the sound is fantastic. You have to see it to |
believe it. |
Most people can't believe all that sound is coming from one individual. I don't use these enhancements except |
where I feel it makes the song sound better. Some places of business prefer accompaniment from just the guitar |
alone, which I am happy to do. I temper my performance to suit the desires of any establishment I play. |
